Catch And Tame Beginner Guide

A step-by-step Catch And Tame beginner guide: which animals to catch first, the order to buy upgrades, and the mistakes that cost new players their first million.

What the game actually asks of you

Catch And Tame is a lasso-and-idle hybrid. You throw a rope at roaming animals, drag them back to your pen, and the pen pays out cash per second — including while you are offline. Everything else in the game exists to raise that per-second number: better lassos let you catch stronger animals, feeding raises luck, and breeding turns two animals you own into one you could not catch.

That means the only question worth asking in your first hour is: what raises my dollars-per-second the fastest for the least risk? The answer for a new account is not the rarest animal you can see. It is a pen full of Goats.

Step 1 — Fill your pen with Goats, not Chickens

All three Common animals are trivially catchable with the free Basic Lasso, but they are not equal. A Chicken pays about $3/sec, a Dog $4/sec, and a Goat $5/sec. Same effort, 66% more income. Farm the upper farm terraces and take Goats until every starting pen slot is full.

  • Chicken — $3/sec, Farm, Easy
  • Dog — $4/sec, Town, Easy
  • Goat — $5/sec, Farm, Easy

Step 2 — Redeem every active code before you spend anything

Codes hand out Steaks, Bones and event items that would otherwise cost you real playtime. Open your Backpack, switch to the Codes tab, and work through the active list. Codes are case-sensitive, so type them exactly as written — PLUSHIECODE and FISHINGCLAW are the two most recently confirmed working codes.

Do not feed Steaks to Commons. Food raises luck, and luck matters when you start hunting Rare and Epic spawns. Bank them.

Step 3 — Buy the Storm Wrangler as your first real purchase

The Basic Lasso has 80 strength, which snaps on almost every Rare target. The Storm Wrangler costs $120,000 and jumps you to 220 strength — enough for the entire Rare tier and most Epics. Nothing else you can buy at that price comes close.

Resist buying pen decorations or cosmetics before this. A single Wolf at $11/sec earns more than two Goats, and you cannot hold a Wolf on 80 strength.

Step 4 — Move to the Forest border at night

Wolves spawn more densely at the forest borders after dark, and Bears are the best Rare income in the game at $13/sec. Both are Medium difficulty, which the Storm Wrangler handles. Run the tree line rather than the deep forest: border spawns are denser and closer to your pen.

Keep one Wolf and one Bear parked permanently. They are the parents of the Wolf + Bear → Zebra recipe, which is the cheapest way to prove your breeding pen works at a 32% success rate.

Step 5 — Take Koala as your first Epic

Lion and Tiger earn more, but both are Hard difficulty and will cost you rope after rope while you learn the throw timing. Koala is Epic income at $16/sec on Medium difficulty with no weather requirement — the best risk-adjusted catch in the early game. Aim upward into the eucalyptus canopy; ground-level throws miss branch spawns entirely.

Mistakes that cost new players the most

  • Chasing Legendaries with a Storm Wrangler. Rope snaps waste the spawn and the window.
  • Selling duplicate Wolves, Bears, Lions and Tigers — all four are breeding parents.
  • Spending Steaks on Commons instead of saving them for Rare-tier luck.
  • Firing a weather totem mid-route instead of before it, which burns half the timer.
  • Ignoring the Sky Island dawn window; Pegasus is the best-earning Legendary and needs no combat skill, only punctuality.

Questions about this guide

+What should I catch first in Catch And Tame?

Goats. They pay $5/sec — the best Common income — and the free Basic Lasso catches them reliably. Fill every starting pen slot with Goats before attempting anything Rare.

+How much money do I need before leaving the farm?

$120,000, the cost of the Storm Wrangler. It raises lasso strength from 80 to 220, which is the difference between snapping on Wolves and catching them consistently.

+Do codes expire in Catch And Tame?

Yes, and quickly. Update codes such as UPDATE11 through UPDATE16 are already dead. Redeem the current list the first time you log in.
